Our friend Steffi died on 31.7.2006 of breast cancer. Angels were her passion and it was her friends’ and familie’s plan to give her an angel tombstone. As they are pricey, Sascha and Christian decided to release this CD to raise the money. The rest of the money will go into selected cancer awarenss charities.
It was our wish to tell you, the listeners, of our friend Steffi.
In October 2005 Steffi discovered that she had breast cancer. Seven enduring months later, aged 29, she passed away in the presence of her family and closest friends in Mainz, Germany.
She was well-loved by her family and friends as well as colleagues and patients, as Steffi was a nurse.
She grew up in a small town close to Erfurt until she finished school. Aged 14 she decided to become a vegetarian for animal welfare reasons.
Her brother and their mutual friends influenced her deeply in her taste of music, she listened to Nick Cave, The Cure, Depeche Mode, frontline assembly and many others in her youth.
She moved to the area around Frankfurt, Main in 1996 to become a nurse.
Here the dark scene is very active and Steffi dived well into it. She loved
clubbing, dressing up, working on her own style. As a nurse she was hard-
working, taught young nursing students and stood up for her patients.
These often said when she came into a room: ‘here comes an angel’.
Steffi was always interested to learn new things and wanted to see the whole world, but her most imminent wish to see Canada was unfulfilled due to her far-to-soon death. However memories of her explorations of Denmark, Sweden, London, San Francisco, LA and South Africa helped her pass the time during her illness. On all these vacations she went with close friends.
She also liked the mystic places of Ireland and Scotland, as she believed in angels and that there is more around us than we can see. For this reason, she also occupied herself with alternative healing methods such as crystals and homeopathy and died with an angel made of rose quartz in her hand.
The music on the CD reflects her musical taste, of course not all of it, but some of the musicians here are close friends of hers.
We visited the Maschinenfest several times, a concert by Einstuerzende Neubauten, some Wave Gothic Treffen. A highlight in all of these was that she had the chance to see The Awakening and VNV Nation during a stay in Johannesburg, South Africa with Sascha, her boyfriend.
It is hard to describe a person that goes away too early and that leaves an empty space. These sentences cannot catch what she meant to us, but we hope this description has touched you and leaves you with a raw image of an angel that came to walk the Earth.
Comments from Steffis friends:
Tanja: I am always with you in my heart and in my thoughts. We will see each other again. In love, Tanja
Thorsten and Antje (her brother and his fiancé):
In our thoughts you live forever, but the deep hole in our hearts cannot be filled.
Karen:
But somewhere in the darkest nigh, shines as tar for me with all its might. Shines for me, for all my pain, and dreams like me of everlasting time.
She has finally become what she always wanted to be: an angel.
Mona:
Close like a sister, we are bound esoterically, across our borders and walls. Go ahead into Nature.
